Piezo force measurement with PACEline force transducers

In step with your production: PACEline is reliable piezo force measurement technology in HBM quality.

Piezoelectric force transducers from HBM

Your fitting and assembly processes are fast and space is a constraint. But you still expect consistently reliable quality control for your production. It’s time for the PACEline piezo force transducers.

Compact and highly dynamic piezo force measurement technology from HBM makes the difference – bringing fresh impulses to piezoelectric force measurement technology.

All PACEline piezoelectric transducers provide the following benefits:

High stiffness, minimal displacementCompact size High dynamics Output signal independent of the transducer's nominal (rated) force; the force transducer can be designed to withstand high overloads.

How a piezoelectric force transducer functions

A piezo force transducer consists of single crystal sensor elements and components used for force application.

Forces acting on the crystal make charges move. The separation of the charge centers of gravity is proportional to the applied force. The sum of the shifted charges can be measured on the crystal surfaces.

The two piezoelectric quartz rings are surrounded by an enclosure of two metal half shells. The coaxial plug on the left has external contact with the enclosure and internal contact with the charge discharge between the two washers.

The charge present on the outer surface of the crystal is picked up by electrodes and processed by a charge amplifier into a voltage or current signal. The sensitivity of a piezoelectric force transducer is given in pC/N. The output signal can be calculated by

Q= q*F

Where F [N] is the applied force, q [pC/N] the piezoconstant of the crystal used and Q [pC] the electric charge that represents the useful signal of the piezo force transducer caused by the applied force.
